SCHOOL LUNCH BACKPACK PROJECT:

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO DELIVER WEEKEND FOOD BACKPACKS

Do you have a spare 60 to 90 minutes? Once every 4 to 6 weeks? On Tuesday morning?

If so, the Bonneville Democrats are requesting your assistance. Last year we participated in the Weekend Food Backpack Program at Cloverdale Elementary School. Students and teachers, both, appreciated the effort put forth by the Democrats. Again this year, feeding Idaho's children is a priority for the Idaho Food Bank. The back program is a vehicle to accomplish this goal. This program provides food to meet the basic needs of school children for the weekend with emphasis on ensuring each child is offered food items that meet 100% of their needs of Vitamin C, Vitamin A, Iron, and Calcium. Also, there are enough calories provided to meet 75-100% of energy needs while limiting calories from fat to 30% or less.

These nondescript backpacks are distributed to children in a discreet manner each Friday or the last day of school if it is a short week. The children bring them back Monday to be filled with food again.

The commitment is two hours or less every Tuesday morning between 9:00 a.m. and noon. You can set your own pick-up time within these parameters. The bags will be delivered to Cloverdale Elementary School. Call Carrie Crom at 525-8550 if interested.

Last year one of the little boys at Cloverdale thought he won the food. He asked his teacher if he might win food again the following week. This little guy needs our help.
